Rabbi Charles Briskin
Rabbi Eric Goldberg
Cantor Julie Berlin

The boys are now seen as adults in the Jewish community.
They will lead the congregation for the first time, bearing their own responsibility for the ritual law, tradition and ethics. They will assist the Rabbi and Cantor in leading many prayers and read from the Torah.

TORAH

The Torah scroll is hand-written by a trained scribe on parchment. It contains the Five Books of Moses. The scroll is read in its entirety over the course of the Hebrew year, with specific portions corresponding to each calendar week.

THE ARK

The holiest place in the synagogue where the Torah scrolls are kept. The ark is only opened during special prayers and when the Torah is removed and returned. We stand when the ark is open.

BIMAH

The raised platform in the synagogue from which the Torah is read and services led.

SIDDUR

The prayer book. Since Hebrew is read from right to left, the siddur opens accordingly.

KIPPAH

Head covering worn during the service as a sign of respect and reverence.

TALLIT

A prayer shawl worn to symbolize wrapping oneself in G-d's presence. Each of the fringes contains eight threads and five knots. The sum of them, plus the numerical value of the word Tallit total 613, the number of commandments in the Torah.
